Nobody forgets a tax deadline. Everybody forgets the five-minute form. And the Florida annual report is exactly that kind of form: it shows up once a year, right after the holidays, and it costs $400 extra if it slips past May 1.
So here's the fix that takes ten seconds. Add two reminders to your calendar and let your phone do the remembering.
What you're being reminded about
Every Florida LLC files a short annual report on Sunbiz, the Florida state website where companies are registered. It confirms your addresses, your managers and your registered agent, the person or company that accepts legal papers for the LLC. The window opens January 1 and closes May 1, every year. If your LLC was formed this year, your first report is due next year.
It isn't a tax return and it doesn't ask about money. Our Florida LLC annual report guide walks through every field, the fee and what happens if you miss it.
Add the reminders
Pick your calendar. Each reminder is an all-day event that repeats every year, so you only do this once.
Early January, every year
Florida LLC annual report: file it on Sunbiz
Late April, every year
Last call: Florida LLC annual report due May 1
Apple Calendar or other (.ics) The .ics file adds both reminders at once.
On a phone, the Google and Outlook buttons open your calendar in the browser. Sign in, check the event and save it. The .ics file works with Apple Calendar on iPhone and Mac, and with most other calendar apps: open it and confirm.
Why two reminders
The first one lands in early January, when the window has just opened and nothing else is due yet. That's the best moment to file. The second one, in late April, is the safety net. If January got away from you, you still have about ten days before the late fee.
Honestly, most owners who pay the late fee didn't decide not to file. They just never saw it coming.
While you're filing, check your addresses
The annual report is also the free moment to change what Sunbiz shows to the world. Your mailing address and your manager's address are public, and they don't have to be your home. If you want them off the record, read how to keep your home address off Sunbiz and how to change your Florida LLC's address before you file.
